June 17 & 18: Begin this workshop by using special building blocks that contain inputs and outputs like motors, lights, batteries and buzzers and make them work together as part of a system you design. Then channel your inner seamstress to craft a conductive creation with LEDs and conductive thread that is sure to brighten any room.
June 24 & 25: In this final workshop, put your new skills to the test as you learn more about how different colors of light interact as you experiment with light and shadows. Complete the series by combining your knowledge of circuitry and creativity to create a greeting card that will truly shine.
July 8 & 9: Link everyday materials together and turn them into a creature that moves according to your specifications. Create a story, adjust the light and put on a show while you learn about the components of simple machines and how they set the world around us into motion.
July 15 & 16: Explore the engineering that goes into creating paths and obstacles. You will construct contraptions that meet specific design parameters. Then, create your own version of a pinball-like machine and decide what obstacles go where, what noises it should make and even what the rules are to win.
July 22 & 23: Put your observation skills to the test with a challenging activity that includes matching sounds to objects. Then, become a VIP builder for the Nerdy Derby. In a private build area, construct and engineer a car to race down the hills and valleys of a 40 foot track – the only rule... there are no rules. Attempt to build the fastest or slowest car for your chance to win a prize.
July 29 & 30: In this final workshop, become the true master of engineering by creating your very own robot. Begin with exploring the properties of movement using segmented joints to create a robot hand. Complete the series by programming a LEGO® robot to move through obstacles using drag and drop coding.
